D2L Groups

    Create Groups in D2L:


    Faculty uses groups to separate their classlist into different groups. If set up properly when a discussion or dropbox is created a group can only see the post or submissions of member of their group.

    * There is a confusion on creating a group and then create a restriction on a Discussion or DropBox. If you do this and then add all groups to the restriction, that will let all groups see everybody post. This restriction can be used for example to create a discussion and assign it only to one group so the other group will not have access to the discussion.


    Discussion Areas

    *The correct way to set up groups is by creating a Discussion Area. You do this for each forum you want to divide by groups (Different than restrict by one 1 or 2 groups)
    *Click on Add Another to add more Forums 





    This will create a new Discussion Topic divided by group. There will not be restrictions to access the topic as all group will see the topic, but they will only see and reply the threats within their groups.




    Comments

    -If you know ahead of time that you are going to divide your class by groups, create the topics from the Groups Tool.
    -You can not create Discussion Topic first and then divide it by groups
